Potty Training Solutions for Girls

potty-training-girlsWe all understand that boys and girls have different plumbing, different attitudes and different needs. There are a number of potty training solutions designed for girls and some that may work better than others. Here are some potty training solutions for girls that will assist your little princess “in training”.

Potty Chairs for Girls
A potty chair is a small potty that sits on the floor. Your daughter can use the potty just like she would use a big toilet. When she is finished doing her business the reservoir can be emptied  into the toilet. The reason potty chairs work better for girls is that they sit to do all of their business. Many parents of little boys have written to us and told us that their son tried to stand at the potty chair and made a big mess. Ginsey Industries make a number of   potty chairs in styles for little girls including: Princesses, Minnie Mouse, Dora The Explorer, Fairies and much more. Potty chairs stand out as a potty training solution for girls that is embraced by moms of nationwide.

Step Stools for Girls
You may find that the best potty training solution for girls isn’t related to the potty at all.  Little girls want to be just like their mom. That means that your daughter may want to sit on the “big girl” potty immediately. A step stool is a great way to help girls to sit on the toilet. Ginsey makes a variety of step stools in colors and themes that are perfectly suited for little girls. Once your daughter is potty trained the stool can be used for brushing teeth and getting into the  bathtub.

Potty Seats for Girls
Ginsey makes a number of potty seats for girls that will assist them in using “big girl” potty.  We have a variety of styles and colors suited to girls. Styles range from air cushioned, padded or rigid models. We even have a number of folding potty seats that are great for travel. Donn’t your little girl fall in. Get her a potty seat from Ginsey.com

Solutions to Potty Training Problems

Here are some solutions to your common potty training problems. We have heard just about every problem there is when it comes to potty training and we have the answers to quite a few of them. Here are three of the most common issues.

Potty Training Problem #1
My son keeps peeing on the floor when seated on the toilet to make #2.

Solutions to Potty Training Problem #1
We heard this problem so many times that we actually invented a solution. It is called the splash guard. Many of our potty seats now come equipped with a built in splash guard for little squirts. This shield prevents little tinklers from spraying pee over the seat when they are seated to make #2.

Potty Training Problem #2
My child refuses to use her potty chair no matter what we do. all of her siblings have used the same one with no problems.

Solutions to Potty Training Problem #2
She may never use the potty chair. We have seen this happen many times. Some children  want so much to be like their parents or older siblings that they refuse any “baby seats”. Buy her a cute step stool and try allowing her to sit on the regular toilet. This may give her the confidence she needs to go.

Potty Training Problem #3
My child seems interested in his potty seat but every time we put him on it he never goes.

Solutions to Potty Training Problem #3
Buy a potty hook and hang the seat there when not in use. Show your child how to put the seat over the toilet himself and explain that he can do this all by him self. Ask your child is he or she needs to go to the bathroom but rather than taking them yourself, simply say. “Go ahead, go get your potty seat”. This will really help your child to OWN his or her potty time.

Potty Training Solutions for Boys

I have two boys so I feel well qualified to offer potty training solutions for boys. We all know that boys and girls have different plumbing and thus have different needs for potty training. Here are some solutions that I have used quite successfully

Potty Seats vs Potty Chairs
Potty chairs just didn’t cut it for my boys. Boys like to “stand-n-spray” when they pee and a floor potty was just a recipe for disaster. My boys did not want to sit to pee either. Rather than have a floor potty chair for #2 and then take them to the big boy potty for #1 we decided it is just easier (and less disgusting) to use the big boy potty for everything. We did get a lot of use from an Elmo potty seat that fit over the regular toilet.

Step Stools
If you have a boy then you MUST buy a step stool. My boys loved using the stool to go pee-pee in the toilet. It made them feel like big boys and prevented a lot of messes. My oldest son still uses the step stool to brush his teeth.

Potty Training Accessories
I used a couple of potty training accessories with mixed results. We have a potty hook that is intended to hang the potty seat on the toilet tank. Just like everything else in my house, the kids never hung the potty seat back on the hook where it belongs. I eventually started using the potty hook to hang the potty seat on the back of the door where visitors didn’t have to see it. We had great successes with tinkle targets. They are flush-able designs that your boys can pee on. My kids love to aim their pee and this potty training solution helped them keep it in the toilet.

5 Potty Training Tips

Here are 10 great potty training tips from Ginsey Industries:

(1) It is Never Too Early
It really is never too early to introduce your little one to the potty. Even if they are not using the potty, it is good to make them aware of it and why their older brothers and sisters use it.

(2) Reinforcement is Key
Make sure that your little one can use the potty at home, at school, and on the road. It is easy to just opt for a diaper when traveling but Ginsey’s travel potty seats make on the go potty training easy and help reinforce what you are doing at home.

(3) Rewards are Good but not Necessary
Offering a reward tends to work with older children, but younger ones are usually just as excited as you that they are using the potty like a big girl or a big boy. We have a number of parents tell us that buying their child a Ginsey potty seat with their favorite cartoon characters on it was all the reward their child needed to succeed at potty training.

(4) It Doesn’t Always Work
Sometimes it doesn’t matter what you try. Some kids will only become potty trained on their own timetable. In these cases it is often best to simply back off and let your child make the decision to become potty trained on their own. Some children do not respond to pressure but are rather self starters who will accomplish tasks efficiently when those tasks are made their sole responsibility. My wife and I had this issue with our oldest son and we were surprised how quickly he potty trained himself once the choice was his own and not ours.

(5) Use Support Tools
Don’t try to be Supermom or Superdad. There are great potty training tools like tinkle targets, reward stickers, potty chairs, potty seats, travel potty seats and much more at your disposal. Theses tools are all available on the Ginsey.com Website and are all very cost effective. Just think of how much money you will be saving once you get your child out of diapers and on to the potty!

Thomas Potty Seat

Ginsey Insustries has a great Thomas potty seat. Technically, it is a Thomas the Train 3 in 1 potty training chair system. This system includes:

THOMAS FLOOR POTTY
This is a potty chair that starts the potty training process on your child’s level.

DETACHABLE THOMAS POTTY SEAT
This seat detaches from the base and is used on the big toilet. This welcomes your child to adult toilet (standard or elongated seats)

THOMAS STEP STOOL
This stool can be used once your child is ready to stand at the toilet (boys) or just to get on the toilet (girls). It provides a solid base for your child to reach both the potty and the sink.

THOMAS STICKERS
You can reward potty training progress and decorate your Thomas potty!

To commemorate our Thomas potty training seat I wrote a silly Ginsey version of the Thomas theme song:

They’re two they’re four they’re six they’re eight
It doesn’t matter cause they’re potty trained
Tan and green and brown and blue
Whatever the color of their poo

Potty train at home or when away
Our products help a’long the way
A place to seat little rear ends
Ginsey is your friend!

Different Types of Potty Seats

There are a few things to consider when selecting kids potty seats because there are many types of potty seats available. I will briefly outline my experiences with various potty seats and let you draw you own conclusions.

When we were potty training my son Colin, we tried a number of different potty seats out. Naturally potty seats are easy test out when you work for Ginsey. My son is pretty big for his age so we encountered some interesting obstacles when he was being potty trained.

Potty Chairs
In case you don’t know a potty chair is a little seat about the height of a step stool. Your child makes #1 or #2 in the potty and then you dump it out. My wife was opposed to this form of potty training because she didn’t like the idea of cleaning up poop from yet another surface. I understand that but some of my friends, especially those with petite little girls have had great success with a potty chair.

Foam Cushioned Potty Seats
We tried this style out and it seemed to work really well for making #2. My son is a big kid so the built in “splash guard” didn’t work very well because he just peed over top of it and made a mess. I don’t think this would be an issue with a smaller kid who sits deeper in the seat. We used the foam cushioned seat for #2 and we uses the Sesame Street step stool for making #1 and it worked well…Until he relapsed!

Air Cushioned Potty Seats
Well our son relapsed a bit and wet back to going in his pants. He said he didn’t like his potty seat and that it hurt. That is when we pulled out the Elmo Air Cushioned Potty Seat. This seat was perfect for his larger size. He found it very comfortable and like all kids he loves Elmo. The air cushioned seat allows a bigger kid a bit more “hiney room” and really lets them “sink in” to do their business. Thanks to the Elmo potty seat and a Sesame Street step stool my son is fully potty trained today.

Potty Chairs

Potty Chairs, Potty Seats what the heck is the difference? Well if you read on I will explain the difference to you.

Potty Seats
Potty Seats are a smaller seat that actually fits over an standard adult toilet seat . Potty seats are usually made of hard plastic and can often times feature a cushioned top made of either plastic encased foam or air filled plastic. The purpose of a potty seat is to create a smaller opening for a child to sit on. Most potty seats can be stored by hanging them on a hook or placing them behind the toilet.

We also make a number of travel potty seats that collapse to fit into a diaper bag or medium sized purse.

Potty Chairs
Potty Chairs are essentially a small (low to the ground) children’s toilet. The child sits directly on the potty chair and makes #1 or #2. The parent is responsible for emptying the potty char’s reservoir into the actual toilet. If you ask me a potty seat is the way to go, but a potty chair is a nice option for very small potty trainers who can’t reach the big toilet. A few of our potty chairs actually convert to become step stools.
